Mapping Water (In)Equality
Access to safe water remains uneven across Lahore—an issue ARC has examined through large-scale field research. ARC has conducted extensive field-based research to assess water quality across Lahore. Through systematic data collection and site visits, we have surveyed over 1,200 locations and identified seven major E. coli contamination hotspots, including Chungi Amar Sidhu, Shadipura, Charrar Pind, Kirianwala, Kharas Mohalla, Mustafaabad, and Kot Khawaja Saeed.
This work highlights the uneven distribution of safe water access across the city, particularly in low-income communities where exposure risks remain high. Building on these findings, ARC is expanding its focus to educational institutions in under served areas. In the next phase, we plan to assess water quality in 200 schools located in low-income neighborhoods. Given the amount of time children spend in these settings, ensuring access to safe drinking water is both urgent and essential.
